Frequently Asked Questions
Comment questions regarding our youth sports and programs.
How do I contact someone at Skyhawks?
Feel free to call us at 1.800.804.3509 – we’d love to chat with you.
How do I know if my child is registered?
If you registered directly with Skyhawks, you will receive a payment confirmation to the email provided upon completion of your transaction.
My child can’t attend the program after all, can I get a refund?
If your child is unable to attend the program you registered them for, you can apply the registration fee to a future Skyhawks program, just email us at [email protected] or give us a call at 800.804.3509. Refunds will only be given if you have registered through Skyhawks, purchased Refund Protection and requested the refund two weeks or more before the program start date. (Not all programs are eligible for Refund Protection.) If you registered through a partnering organization, please contact that organization directly about their refund policy. We do not prorate program prices for missed days.
Will my child’s program be cancelled or relocated?
We hope your program isn’t cancelled, but occasionally not enough participants register to ensure a successful program. There are minimum numbers for each sport, which vary based on the sport and age requirements. In the event your program is cancelled due to low enrollment, you will be notified and given the option to transfer to a different program or receive credit towards a future program. If you prefer a refund, you must let us know within two weeks of the program’s cancellation date. If your program is cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control, you will be notified and given the option to transfer to another program or receive a credit towards a future program.
Do you have multiple child discounts?
Because our programs are priced as low as possible, we do not offer multiple child discounts unless specifically noted.
Do you have late fees?
Yes, a $10 late fee will be added to the program price if you register less than seven days prior to the start date.
Can I get a discount if my child will only be at the program for three days?
Program fees are not prorated.
Who are your coaches, and what are their qualifications?
We recruit highly motivated individuals who have demonstrated an exceptional ability to communicate well with children. All coaches have participated in their respective sports at either the high school or college level. All coaches must complete an application, personal interview, background investigation, classroom training, field training and pass a coaches’ test prior to their first day of work.
Is a six-hour program too long for my child? Will my child get bored, hungry or tired?
Our programs are the same duration as a typical school day, and we have found that even young children do quite well for this period of time. Our coaches have plenty of games and activities for the participants and will be changing activities every 10-15 minutes. The variation of activities keeps participants involved and alert. Participants take water/bathroom breaks throughout the day, as well as lunch and snack breaks. Parents are always welcome to visit.
How are participants grouped?
We group children by age and ability. If your child would like to be placed with a friend, make your request with the on-site Director and then place the children in the same line before the program begins on the first day. The on-site Director will do their best to meet your request to keep friends and/or siblings that are close in age together. Our typical age groups are as follows: 3 ½ to 4 year olds, 4 – 6 year olds, 6 – 8 year olds, 8 – 11 year olds, and 11 – 14 year olds.
My 8-year old has never played this sport; will they feel out of place?
You bet! We use a progressive curriculum that develops the skills of young athletes in an age-appropriate format. At Skyhawks we encourage participation in a variety of sports, if your child enjoyed their Skyhawks soccer program, try out one of our basketball programs next!
Are programs co-ed?
While participant behavior is not usually an issue at our programs, we have a simple protocol in place to manage behavior challenges with participants. Our first step when we experience a behavior issue with a child is to have a discussion and to better understand how we can help. If the negative behavior continues, we have the child take a short timeout where they control the duration of the timeout. When they are ready, they can rejoin activities. If there is a second behavior incident on the same day, the child is placed in a second timeout where the coach controls the duration of the timeout based on the severity of the actions. If behavior challenges continue, the parent will be contacted by the on-site director to seek additional support. In rare cases, a child may be removed from camp for the day or removed from the program altogether. All actions related to addressing behavior depend on the severity of each case. Please contact us if you have questions about our behavior policy.
My child has already attended a Skyhawks program, will they learn anything new this year?
What is the participant behavior policy?
We take the emotional well-being of all participants very seriously. Bullying in the form of racism, physical abuse, verbal abuse, sexually explicit commentary/gestures, emotional intimidation or cyberbullying is not tolerated at our programs. In the event an incident of bullying occurs, the parents of the children involved will be informed immediately or at pick-up time, depending on the severity of the incident. If the behavior continues with one or more participants, coaches will consult with local Skyhawks management to consider expulsion from the program or next steps in line with our participant behavior policy.
How does Skyhawks manage bullying when it occurs at programs?
What is your weather policy?
Rain or shine, we are playing! We do not cancel programs due to seasonal, weather-related conditions. However, in the case of extreme weather, we may cancel or postpone programs for the safety of the participants. To determine if there is a cancellation or postponement, please check with the program director at your site. In the rare event of a cancellation, your child will not be left alone. We do not provide refunds for cancellations or postponements that are weather-related.
How do you handle air quality issues?
If the air quality reaches an unhealthy level before the start of a program, we will try to move activities inside. If we do not have access to an indoor alternative, we may have to cancel the program for the day. If the air quality worsens during the middle of a program day, we will modify our activities, take more breaks and do light activities that cause minimal exertion. We do not provide refunds for cancellations or postponements because of air quality issues.
Why am I being charged a Non-Resident Fee?
Some organizations charge fees for non-resident participation. These fees and the residency requirements are established by the organization. If you are being charged a non-resident fee at checkout and feel this is an error, please contact the host city to clarify boundaries and city limits. Skyhawks customer service staff cannot waive non-resident fees without the authorization of the partnering city.
