BGF creates awareness and raises money to support the institutions, doctors and organizations that are working to seek better treatments for childhood cancer and to find a cure. Brandon Brauns’ Goal was to beat his cancer, he sadly passed away at the age of 11 in Seattle WA. We will continue in his honor to reach his goal for all children around the world.

Why

Cancer kills more children in a year than any other disease or event. Even though this statistic is shockingly alarming the funding given to seek better treatment and to find a cure is only 4% from the National Institute of Health. We need to increase awareness to increase the funding to change this statistic.

How Skyhawks and Brandon’s Goal Foundation will make an impact of change:

1. Fund research projects that focus solely on childhood cancer
    •   Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Childhood Brain Cancer Project

2. Fund programs that support children and their families affected by Childhood Cancer
    •   Seattle Children’s Oncology Department family support projects
    •   Providence Seattle Pediatric Hospice

3. Fund and lead a clinical trial on the “Late Effects of Childhood Cancer Treatment”
    •   Sponsor events allowing children to be a part of our success and to educate the community about the        critical need to move childhood cancer to the forefront of our countries efforts

Why Skyhawks and Brandon’s Goal Foundation

Brandon Brauns became a part of our Skyhawks family when his mom worked for us in Austin Texas in 1999. Brandon and his parents moved back to Seattle where Kris Brauns continued as our Western Washington Area Manager from 2001 to 2011. Many of you have likely spoken to or met with Kris and Brandon. In 2003 Brandon was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor. Once we found out, we immediately went into action to support the Brauns family.

For the next 7 years Kris balanced her professional life with her life as Brandon’s mom and caregiver. Kris recently spoke at a pediatric hospice seminar and shared, “So many people and forces were in place to take care of our family so we could take care of Brandon,” she said. “I was so very fortunate to have the unconditional support of Skyhawks. The staff at corporate are my family. They stood by Brandon and me every step of the way, supporting me professionally while taking care of Brandon but even more importantly they supported me like family. The love and compassion they gave to my family allowed us to focus on Brandon; at the same time they always had a professional plan in place to support my programs in Western Washington.”

Kris and Skyhawks began offering events called “Kids Kickin 4 Cancer” in 2005. If you attended one you would have seen Brandon along his mom’s side facilitating the fundraising event. KK4C raised money for the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center and the projects finding a cure for pediatric cancer. The message to the kids and parents is one of selflessness and putting another’s needs ahead of your own. Skyhawks and Kris felt fortunate to be able to share this message and experience with children, allowing them to be a main part of the fundraiser. Skyhawks and Brandon’s Goal Foundation will continue to offer KK4C in Washington and across the country.

Please join us and Brandon’s Goal Foundation so that one day we all will witness a cure for children affected by this disease.
